Wind O'Clock is currently a free hobby project. It keeps as little about you as it needs to tell you when the wind is good at your spots. There are no ads and no analytics, and we never sell your data.
Who is responsible
Primus Svensson, Sweden. Contact: hello@windoclock.com
What is stored, and why
- Your email address: it is your account, and where login links and alerts go.
- Your spots: name, location and wind rules, to check the forecast for them.
- Your settings: whether alerts are on, what each email covers, and your wind unit (kn or m/s), which the emails use too.
- Alerts we sent you, and whether each email went out. Kept for 90 days.
- Login sessions: a cookie with a random id, stored on our side only as a hash. It lasts 90 days or until you log out.
- Login links, stored as a hash, with a keyed hash of the IP address that asked for them (to stop one sender from mass-mailing). They expire after 15 minutes and are deleted within a day.
- Request logs at our host (IP address, page or API address, browser), kept for 3 days to find faults and abuse.
To keep the service running we look at totals, such as how many accounts there are and how many alerts went out in a week, never at what any one person does.
We use your data to provide the service you signed up for (GDPR article 6(1)(b)); the request logs are kept to keep the service secure (article 6(1)(f)).
Who else sees data
- Cloudflare hosts the app and its database (stored mainly in Europe) and keeps the request logs. Its Turnstile check on the login page tells people from bots using your IP address and browser details (not what you type); Cloudflare also uses these signals to improve its bot detection.
- Resend sends our emails, so it sees your address and the email's content. It is in the USA and covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
- Open-Meteo gets your spots' coordinates when we fetch forecasts, never who you are.
- OpenFreeMap serves the maps (made from OpenStreetMap data). Your browser loads map data from it, so it sees your IP address and which area you look at.
Cookies
Only the login cookie, which the app can't work without, plus whatever the Turnstile check on the login page needs to work. No tracking or advertising cookies, so there is nothing to consent to.
Your rights
You can see and change your data in the app, and delete your account and everything in it under Settings. Email us to get a copy of your data or with any other question. You can also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection, IMY.
